We will go together on a fun nature walk, learn how and where to search for animal tracks and signs (like birds’ nests, foxes dens, wood mice houses, footprints, bones, feathers, egg shells, and leftover meals), and how to identify them, listen to birds singing, search for bugs, and recognize plant species. We will collect natural materials and observe them in detail with a microscope to learn more about the natural beauty of this forest. Along the nature trail, we will identify flowers blooming, mushrooms, lichens, birds flying and singing, invertebrates hiding under logs, several animals tracks and signs (such as house holes, fur, feathers, nests, skulls and bones, egg shells, trails, chew marks, leftover meals, and all possible other signs) and much more. This is the first Family Nature Walk of the year, and it is a great starting point to learn more about Munich's biodiversity. You will discover the characteristic plants, mushrooms, lichens, and animals of the area, and learn more about the local ecology on a fun nature walk through the forest. The Secret Life of Mushrooms
Why mushrooms are different from plants? Why do they have a ‘cap’? What is their life cycle? We will answer all of these questions and many more interesting ones! We will search for mushrooms under leaves, on tree barks, branches, and trunks inside Forstenrieder Forest. In this 4th class of the ‘What do animals do’ course, we will explore the behavior of small animals, like the hedgehog, squirrel, marten, weasel, wild rabbits, and birds living near us in the Bavarian forests! What type of animal lives in the forest? What kind of behaviour is that? What causes and shapes it? This is the first class of our animal behaviour course (what do animals do?). What do forest animals do? - Animal behavior course
How to know what animals are doing if you don’t see them directly? Was that fox playing? Whose animal tracks are those left in the mud? Who built that house? Be ready to explore and fall in love with a range of fascinating animal behaviours in 6 unique classes! In this course, we will focus on amazing wild animals living just near us (foxes, deer, badgers, hedgehogs, wild boars, martens, and many more). The Secret life of Fungi and Lichens
How are fungi different from plants? What is the relationship between fungi and lichens? Why lichens live on tree trunks, branches, rocks or twigs? Why do mushrooms have a ‘cap’? Nature Shapes and Colors
Why seeds have different shapes? Why do leaves change color? Why snail shells have a spiral shape? Why ladybirds are red with black spots? Nature comes in many shapes, sizes, and colors. Together we will learn how the nature element's shapes and colors are made, and what influences them. We are going to explore Forstenrieder forest and we will collect and examine as many natural elements we found interesting (like seeds, leaves, berries, feathers, snail shells, ladybugs, spider webs, stones, and so on). We will create beautiful autumn ‘snow’ globes and art collages with all the natural elements collected.

Birdwatching along the Isar
What species of bird is that? What is it doing? Why males have brighter colours than females? Do all birds migrate? We will walk along the Isar River in Munich city centre. Together we will observe birds, learn how to identify common freshwater- and city- species, their tracks and signs, characteristics of their behaviour and what are their main threats. We will create together anti-collision bird signs for your house windows to prevent birds injuries.

Forest Fruits and Seeds
Can you spot where berries, pines, nuts, and seeds are? and from which plant? We are at the end of the summer and many trees and bushes in the forest have already started to produce seeds for next spring! We are going to explore Forstenrieder forest, hunt, and collect fruits and seeds from trees, bushes, and grasses and identify the plants and their life cycle. We will do an exciting scavenger hunt and at the end of the session, we will make seed bombs for your wildlife garden with the seeds collected during our exploration.
Meeting point: The session is conducted in Forstenrieder Park (entrance via Neuried). I will contact you about the details on exactly where to meet ( it will be 10 mins before starting).

Parents/grandparents are welcome to join!
What to bring: closed shoes, long trousers, backpack, water bottle, change of clothes in case kids get wet or muddy, raincoat, sun hat (snacks are provided by LWE)

Body Parts
To which bird those feathers belong? Whose bones are those? We will walk through the forest and learn how and where to search body parts (feathers, eggs, shells, bones, pellets, exoskeletons, etc), identify them, and the animal to which they belonged. We will deduce animal behavior by their activities based on these signs left in the forest. We will examine in detail live samples using tweezers and magnifiers and do many other fun scientific activities.
